Heart (Cardiology) Center
The heart beats about 2.5 billion times over the average lifetime, pushing millions of gallons of blood to every body part. This steady flow carries oxygen, fuel, hormones, other compounds, and essential cells. It also whisks away the waste products of metabolism. When the heart stops, essential functions fail, some almost instantly.
Given the heart’s never-ending workload, it’s a wonder it performs so well, for so long, for so many people. But it can also fail, brought down by a poor diet and lack of exercise, smoking, infection, unlucky genes, and more, leading to ‘Heart Disease.’
What is Heart Disease?
Heart disease is a general term that includes many types of heart problems. It’s also called cardiovascular disease, which means heart and blood vessel disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world.

- Congenital heart defects are conditions present at birth and can affect the structure of a baby’s heart and how it works. They are the most common type of congenital disability.
- Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a condition when Coronary artery disease is a common heart condition. The major blood vessels that supply the heart (coronary arteries) struggle to send enough blood, oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle.
- Heart infections occur when irritants such as bacteria, viruses and fungi infect your heart.
