What is Appendicitis?

Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix, a 3 ½-inch long tube of tissue extending from your large intestine located on the lower right side of your body. A classic sign of appendicitis is a pain in the lower right belly that moves lower. The symptoms are mostly followed by loss of appetite, swollen belly, nausea and vomiting, and high fever, while some also suffer from dull or sharp pain in the lower belly, painful peeing, severe cramps, and constipation or diarrhea with gas.

What causes Appendicitis?

Even the appendix has specialized tissue that can make antibodies, but no one completely knows its function. Meanwhile, the appendix itself can be blocked by cancer, poop, or any foreign objects which lead to severe inflammation. The appendix is also related to infection in the body which can also cause the appendix to be inflamed. The inflamed appendix later developed into appendicitis, causing pain and many side effects.

How Harmful is Appendicitis?

Rather than severe pain, appendicitis is one of a life-threatening diseases. An inflamed appendix can be ruptured inside the abdominal cavity, spreading bacteria and debris to other organs. The bacteria can create multiple infections within the digestive tract and also the inflammation of the abdominal cavity lining or peritoneum, which itself deadly as it can lead to septicemia – the blood poisoning by bacteria with a death rate as high as 50%

As a result, if you suffer from one of the symptoms related to appendicitis, going to an emergency room immediately is your only option available.

How to deal with Appendicitis?

Appendicitis is possible for everyone older than the age of 2, and it is also unpreventable and unpredictable. As a result, if you suffer from pain in the right lower belly, there is a high chance that it would come from the appendix that is inflamed and ready to rupture. However, many symptoms of appendicitis also occur with another complication within the digestive tract. As a result, doctors will use local tenderness diagnostics directly to the lower right side of your bellows to rule out other complications.

Being a life-threatening complication, the only option for treatment of appendicitis is an appendectomy, a surgery to remove an inflamed appendix. The doctors will give you antibiotics for the control of the inflammation, and the surgery will be processed under anesthesia with two options: basic open cuts or laparoscopic cuts which result in smaller incisions and quicker recovery after the operations.
